With Grand Theft Auto V making an impressive double appearance in Steam's Top Ten, the Enhanced Edition update has proven to be a game-changer.

Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) has recently made headlines with its Enhanced Edition launch, achieving a remarkable feat by entering Steam's top ten most-played games twice. The Enhanced Edition update was initially released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022, but it arrived for PC players on March 4, 2025.

PC players, unlike their console counterparts, received this update for free if they owned the previous version, now known as the Legacy Edition of GTA 5. The update introduced exclusive content and technical upgrades, further elevating the gaming experience. Players now have the option to stick with the older version or upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for the improved experience.

Thanks to this split between the two versions, GTA 5 has once again shattered records on Steam. According to SteamDB, the Enhanced Edition of the game reached over 152,000 concurrent players, securing the seventh spot among Steam's most-played games. Meanwhile, the Legacy Edition still maintained strong engagement with over 113,000 concurrent players, earning it the tenth spot.

While the Enhanced Edition is performing well, it still has a long way to go to surpass the original GTA 5's all-time player peak on Steam. The original version reached an impressive 364,000 concurrent players back in April 2015, whereas the Enhanced Edition peaked at just over 187,000 concurrent players on its release day, March 4. However, with the weekend approaching, there are high expectations for it to break that record.

Despite its success, the Enhanced Edition has faced some issues. Players who upgraded to the new edition were promised a free car in Grand Theft Auto Online. However, some players reported being charged nearly 2,000,000 GTA$ after redeeming the vehicle. Rockstar Games is addressing the issue, offering refunds to players who contact support.

The Enhanced Edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 is off to a strong start, breaking records and sparking interest among players, but it's not without its hiccups. As the weekend progresses, it will be interesting to see whether the Enhanced version can continue to rise and possibly set new player records.
