The Runeseeker is easy to underestimate. You meet Farrow early, poke at a Tome, fight a few angry things, and think that's the whole deal. Then Act 2 rolls in, Act 3 adds more stones, and by Act 4 your stash of PoE2 Items is somehow sharing space with map scraps, rune parts, and half-finished crafting plans.
Why this quest matters early
The big reason to care is the Verisium Anvil. Not later. Not when you're already mapping. You want it as soon as the Lost Catacombs step is done, because Runeforged armour feeds the Runic Ward setup. If you're messing with Kalguuran Gems, that Ward is basically your fuel tank.
The route is pretty simple on paper. Act 1 sends you through Grim Tangle, Hunting Grounds, and Ogham Farmlands for Runestones. After that, you go back toward Grelwood, call Farrow near the Tree of Souls, and open the Lost Catacombs. Finish that vault, grab Liquid Verisium, talk to Farrow, and the Anvil becomes usable.
Quick route players should not skip
1. Speak with Farrow in Clearfell first.
2. Collect every Act 1 Runestone.
3. Finish Lost Catacombs before chasing later rewards.
Let's be real here: most players only notice this quest matters after their Kalguuran skill feels starved.
Runeseeker rewards at a glance
Here's the part I'd keep open on a second monitor, because the unlock order saves a lot of backtracking.
| Stage | Main place | Useful unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Act 1 | Lost Catacombs | Verisium Anvil |
| Act 2 | Skull of the Titan | Runic Inscriptions |
| Act 3 | Mystic Refuge | Unique Runeforging |
| Act 4 | Deserted Post | Ancient Runes recipes |
The Act 4 bit that gets messy
Someone in chat asked why Makoru vanished after they had all four Treasure Map Pieces.
Honestly, treat Act 4 like a fragile handoff. Finish ship dialogue, check Makoru, then chase Dannig or Kingsmarch text.
How I would play it now
I'd clear Runic Remnants while levelling, even the boring ones. The league challenge wants different inscription lengths, and coming back later for low-tier stuff feels awful. I'd also identify every Unique instead of lazily vendoring it, because the Reliquarian progress can sneak up on you. For builds, don't stack persistent Kalguuran skills without counting Spirit first. Leylines, Remnants of Kalguur, and similar skills are not free decorations. Keep the Ward engine running, keep the Anvil upgraded when possible, and if your gear plan stalls, checking Path of Exile2 Items between runs can help you spot what your character is actually missing before you waste another evening in the wrong zone.
