If you have been blasting through the endgame content in Path of Exile 2, you have probably run into plenty of Breaches, taken down massive hands, and successfully gathered a stack of 300 Breach Splinters. In the original game, reaching the stack limit meant watching your hard work instantly combine into a shiny new Breachstone. However, if you are staring at a full stack of 300 splinters sitting idly in your stash and wondering why nothing is happening, you are definitely not alone.
Path of Exile 2 introduces a few intentional shifts in how items handle backend scripts, alongside a known quirk with specialized stash tabs like the Currency or Breach tabs. Because of how these dedicated tabs store items, the automated conversion script doesn't always trigger when the stack hits max capacity inside your vault. Fortunately, getting your hands on that hard-earned Breachstone is incredibly simple once you know the manual trick.
The Inventory Trick to Combine Splinters
If your splinters are stubbornly stuck at 300/300 and refuse to transform, you just need to bypass the stash tab logic by updating the stack state within your actual character inventory. Here is the quick manual process to force the game to recognize your full stack:
Pick up the stack: Take the full stack of 300 Breach Splinters out of your specialized stash tab and place it directly into your regular character inventory.
Split the pile: Hold your split-stack modifier key, lift exactly one single splinter out of the pile, and hover it over your grid.
Drop it back: Place that single splinter right back onto the stack of 299 to bring it back to a full 300.
This manual action immediately forces the conversion script to run. The second that final splinter merges back into the pile within your inventory, the entire stack will instantly transform into a playable Breachstone—or its mandatory crafting variant, the Wombgift, which you will use over at the Genesis Tree.
How to Use Your Breachstone in PoE 2
Once you successfully have your Breachstone, you might be tempted to run straight over to your Map Device and look for a place to slot it in. Don't bother—the mechanics have received a major overhaul compared to the first game. You no longer burn Breachstones as standalone maps from your hideout device. Instead, they interact directly with your progression across the Atlas.
To use your new Breachstone, simply keep it sitting inside your character's active inventory while you explore maps. As you run your maps and clear away the fog obscuring the Atlas network, you will randomly discover hidden points of interest known as Breach Strongholds. These special nodes require an active Breachstone in your inventory to unveil and unlock.
Activating these strongholds allows you to steadily progress through a dedicated Breach sub-tree, unlocking deeper, high-tier endgame content. You will advance from standard encounters into highly rewarding zones like Breach Hives and Fortresses, eventually paving the path to face off against the ultimate boss encounter of the league mechanic: Xesht, We Who Are One. Keep your splinters moving, use the inventory trick whenever they stall, and keep a stone in your pocket as you map to make sure you never miss a stronghold reveal.
