Currently, you might enjoy watching the latest trailer for the Escalation game mode in Valorant.Riot Games has unveiled an exciting new game mode in Valorant known as Escalation.

This mode pits two teams of five against each other in fast-paced battles, where players use a series of progressively less lethal weapons as the match advances.

At the beginning of each game, both teams are given a random selection of loadouts, enhancing the unpredictability of the gameplay.

Riot's objective with Escalation is to create a "quick, fun mode that encourages social play," allowing gamers to experiment with new weapons in a laid-back setting.

While it remains uncertain if Escalation will become a permanent fixture, Riot has indicated that its future will depend on player engagement.

In addition to this new mode, Patch 2.03 includes various quality-of-life enhancements.

Notable changes involve the removal of sprays at the start of rounds, increased prices for weapons like the Frenzy pistol and Marshal sniper rifle, and stricter penalties for players who leave matches due to inactivity.

These adjustments are part of ongoing improvements that will continue with upcoming patches 2.04 and 2.05.

Here are some key balance updates from Patch 2.03:

  • Reyna:
  • Devour (Q) and Dismiss (E) charges have been reduced from 4 to 2.
  • Enemies Reyna has damaged within the last 3 seconds now drop soul orbs, even if Reyna does not get the final blow.
  • The cost for Devour and Dismiss charges has increased from 100 to 200.

  • Yoru:

  • The range of Gatecrash (E) is now visible to enemies on the minimap while moving.
  • The audio range for Gatecrash teleport has been added to the minimap.
  • Yoru's minimap remains visible while in Dimensional Drift (X).
  • Enemies in Yoru's vision during Dimensional Drift are revealed to all minimaps.
  • Dimensional Drift can no longer block enemies.

  • Brimstone:

  • The audio for the Incendiary's (Q) lingering fire zone is now more audible amid other sounds.

  • Phoenix:

  • Similar to Brimstone, the audio for Hot Hands' lingering fire zone has been enhanced for better clarity.

  • Marshal:

  • Movement speed while zooming has been adjusted to 90% of the unzoomed speed, up from 76%.
  • The price has been reduced from 1100 to 1000.
  • Zoom magnification has increased from 2.5x to 3.5x.

  • Stinger (Full Auto Fire):

  • Price increased from 1000 to 1100.
  • Full auto fire rate decreased from 18 to 16.
  • Full auto fire now reaches max spread at bullet 4 instead of bullet 6.
  • Adjusted vertical recoil curve for full auto, with more aggressive recoil after the third bullet.

  • Stinger (Burst Fire):

  • The vertical recoil has been adjusted to be more aggressive following the first bullet.* A new update has been rolled out, introducing significant changes to gameplay mechanics.

  • Adjustments were made to burst fire, increasing the error margin after the initial shot.

  • Burst mode recovery time has been improved, reducing it from 0.45 seconds to 0.40 seconds.

  • The Frenzy has seen a price hike, now costing 500 credits instead of the previous 400.

  • The Escalation game mode is officially live now.

  • This engaging game mode is a fast-paced, 5v5 experience lasting around 7 to 9 minutes. Teams race through a sequence of loadouts that become progressively less lethal.

  • Loadouts will vary each match but will always include a combination of weapons and abilities, with both teams using the same set throughout the game.

  • Escalation aims to create a fun, quick experience that promotes social interaction and allows players to practice using new weapons in a less intense setting.

  • We are thrilled to introduce this highly anticipated game mode, which adds a unique and entertaining element to the game.

  • The duration for how long Escalation will remain active is still to be determined, but we hope to keep it available based on player engagement.

  • A new penalty system has been established for AFK players in competitive matches, where being inactive for six rounds or more will result in a deduction of 8 rank rating points.

  • We recognize that technical issues can arise, which may cause players to miss rounds. Therefore, we won't penalize you for minor absences, but we do encourage players to return and continue their matches.

  • Act rank badges will now reflect your highest rank win rather than the ninth-best win.

  • All sprays will now automatically be removed at the beginning of each round.

  • Timing adjustments have been made as well:

  • The fade-to-black duration after death has been reduced from 1.75 seconds to 1.5 seconds.

  • The time spent on a full black screen has increased from approximately 0 seconds to 0.25 seconds.

  • The overall death sequence duration remains unchanged at 2.75 seconds.

  • Camera movement has been significantly smoothed out, especially beneficial for players experiencing poor network conditions.

  • Prior to this update, players with high ping or packet loss may have encountered jittery camera movements during the death sequence.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Through our thorough investigation, we want to clarify that the camera jitter experienced by some players did not affect combat capabilities.

Players affected by this issue were already eliminated during the erratic movement.

Going forward, all players, independent of their network conditions, will enjoy seamless camera movement during death sequences.

Furthermore, we resolved a bug where Yoru's decoy produced distinct footstep sounds compared to Yoru himself.

Another fix addresses the disappearance of Cypher's cyber cage in-world indicator upon taking damage.

We've corrected the issue where Sova's owl drone could pass through certain map geometry, allowing visibility on the other side.

Additionally, players who were under the nearsight effect previously experienced momentary visibility through smoke; this has been fixed.

Another fix ensures that Skye's seekers will function correctly, even if she is eliminated at a precise moment during their casting.

Yoru faced an issue where he couldn't use a weapon or ability after canceling his dimensional drift right as its enhancements activated; this has been addressed.

Killjoy's lockdown ability now has restrictions in place to prevent it from being placed inside Sage's barrier orb.

If Sage's barrier orb is positioned above Killjoy's ultimate, the part of the wall covering the ultimate will be destroyed.

A fix has been implemented for the glitch that caused Yoru to fall through the map when teleporting to his gatecrash as it expired.

Moreover, Yoru's bait occasionally fell through the floor when the stationary variant was deployed, which has also been remedied.

We resolved an issue where Sova would hear the voice over for Hunter's Fury while attempting to equip the owl drone simultaneously, even when it was not in use.

The end-of-game summary will now correctly reflect "average abilities cast per round" instead of showing it as zero.

We addressed several input bugs that caused issues with possessing and unpossessing objects like Cypher's camera and Sova's drone, which could lead to locking inputs or view direction.

We appreciate the feedback from Cypher players—thank you for your reports!

We've also fixed a problem where certain settings were not visible during gameplay.

For players utilizing color blind settings, your player icon on the minimap will now appear white.

Lastly, we resolved several input issues that prevented players from effectively using orbs or planting the spike.
